a) Eye care campaign (Year 2000 onwards)
Anugraha’s eye care project initiated in year 2000 focuses on comprehensive eye check up, cataract screening & surgery, free distribution of spectacles and medicines to rural elderly population. As a highly successful joint collaborative project under CSR( corporate social responsibility programme) it was sponsored by leading Navratnas & PSUs like ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, OIL, Indian OIL, etc. Hundreds of eye-screening camps have been held in Assam, Uttar Pradesh , Uttaranchal , Maharashtra,Tamil Nadu & Gujarat. Distribution of spectacles to approx. 13,580 patients and cataract surgeries of approx. 10,000 patients were conducted in last 11 yrs.Details of Eye Camps Organized | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

b) Chirayushya Samman
Anugraha instituted Longevity awards in year 2002 to honor distinguished senior citizens for their inspiring achievements, exemplary work and continuous service towards betterment of society, art, literature & culture. Ten eminent senior citizens were honoured on the occasion of International Conference organized in 2002. His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shanker Ji, the renowned spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living Foundation conferred “Anugraha Chirayushya Samman” to following dignitaries: Major. Gen. Ranbir Bakshi, Pt. Birju Maharaj,Rajendra Awasthi, Smt.Gaura Pant ‘Shivani’, Gauri Sharkar Mishra, Nirmala Deshpande, G. Suryanarayan, Col. S.P. Wahi Ram Chandra Sharma .On the occasion of International day of Older Persons on 1st Oct. 2004, Anugraha organized “A Cultural evening & awarding Chirayushya Samman” in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defence, supported by Min. of Social Justice & Empowerment. Eleven distinguished senior citizens were awarded Chirayushya Samman by the Hon’ble Minister, SJE, Mrs. Meira Kumar in a glittering ceremony. Some of the prominent names are : Dr. ML.dewan, Smt. Sarojini Pant, Smt. Zohra Sehgal, Shri Ashish Bose, Shri M.M.Sabharwal & dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan.
c) Widows & Destitute support
Anugraha launched a scheme for adoption of destitute elderly in the Surat district of Gujarat. About 100 needy persons were identified by the Anugraha team in association with ONGC and local community leaders during the survey conducted in the year 2000.The elderly were suffering due to several factors like loss of land and traditional sources of income generation, migration of children, widowhood etc. Approx. 200 elderly destitute received food support and basic medical care from 2000-04.The Scheme named as Annapurna has elicited active participation and cooperation of resident welfare associations and Mahila Samitis of the area. Besides this Anugraha office in Delhi provides basic pension , food, utility items, free medicines, medical aids to needy elderly destitute persons. This initiative is supported by generous support from Servel India pvt. Ltd. & SRS Group.
From despair to hope- the case of Indra Ben |

Indra ben, an 80-year-old widow, lives in the village Bhesan, dist. Surat. She is blind and had to beg for about 8 hours a day to make her living. Being sick and frail, often she was unable to go out for begging and therefore had to starve. Now she is a recipient of Anugraha’s Annapurna Scheme (monthly food and health support) and is able to live with dignity. |
